My father died in 1976 a few months after he and my mother had sold most of the contents of the house and moved to the Dower house in the village. The remaining property of the house, lodges and park were up for sale. On his death, and with my encouragement, he left most of the family portraits and the family archives to my son William, then aged less than two. The only objects left in the house were the portraits, the lanterns in the hall and elsewhere, curtains, fitted carpets, the 18th century kitchen table and the books in the library.

The fact of the bequest to our son encouraged us to do everything possible to secure the house for future generations. We therefore faced the daunting task of refurbishing the house. That this has been achieved is due in many ways to my wife but also to several members of the Stonor family and friends.

There are now many beautiful and interesting objects to see. We have thoroughly enjoyed the rather creative task of putting the house back together and hope you enjoy the result.
