Stonor Park Gardens

Stonor Park Gardens

INTRODUCTION | HISTORY | THE FRONT GARDEN | THE ITALIANATE PLEASURE GARDEN |
THE OLD KITCHEN GARDEN | THE FOOT PATH

There are three gardens at Stonor, one in front open to the park and the other two behind the house, which are surrounded by a brick and flint wall. In front is the large sloping lawn - below which are the remains of a medieval garden.

The views up the hill opposite the house and down the valley are spectacular at all times and visitors may see deer, pheasants and hares as well as the ever graceful Red Kites, Buzzards and other birds.

The garden behind the house consists of a 17th century Italianate walled pleasure garden and the old Kitchen Garden. The pleasure garden consists of ponds, terraces, clipped box hedges, ancient yews and a Japanese style summer house. The old kitchen gardens have been converted by Lady Camoys into large beds and long borders of irises, old fashioned roses, peonies, honeysuckles, clematis and lavenders. In April and May there are swathes of daffodils and narcissi on the hillside above.

Children enjoy all of this just as much as adults.

NEW for 2010

Walks on the Wild Side

Stonor Park is offering the opportunity of guided walks, led by our Gardener, through areas of the park which have been restored after the 1990 storm and not normally accessible  to visitors.

See drifts of snowdrops, the many varieties of daffodils and narcissi plus primroses, and later in the Spring, the flowering cherries and rhododendrums.

Walks will be held on the following Thursdays: 18 and 25 February,  11 and 25 March, 8 and 22 April, and 6 May.  Tickets cost £12.00  to include coffee on arrival, the guided tour and  a warming bowl of soup after the tour.

Limited numbers on each tour so early booking recommended on 01491 638587.
