The slightly larger of our two distinguished drovers’ huts, Quercus – latin for ‘oak tree’ – is a sumptuous oak shepherds’ hut with a stunning handcrafted four-poster bed at its heart. Enjoy a barbecue looking over the Chilterns, sat around the firepit for relaxed summer evenings and a wood burning stove to keep you cosy in winter.
Quercus has a light, airy and timeless feel that blends classic country style with modern, welcoming touches that our guests truly appreciate.
In designing the interior of Quercus with the help of former Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler designer Sophie Stonor, William and Ailsa have thought of everything. From 300 thread count linen, the beautifully finished kitchen – complete with Nespresso machine, Grind Coffee from Shoreditch and pull-out Fisher & Paykel dishwasher – to the delightful ensuite bathroom with handmade crackle-glaze tiled shower and piping hot high-pressure showers supplied with Commune toiletries. You’ll even find a Dyson hairdryer in the hang-cupboard.
Powered by 100% renewable energy.
Quercus’ oak four-poster bed is a romantic, unexpected touch within the rustic comfort of the shepherds’ hut. Inspired by the ancient woodlands surrounding Stonor, guests are always delighted by this centrepiece that adds something truly special to their stay.
Quercus has been hand built with the utmost craftsmanship in Dorset and on site at Stonor by Plankbridge, the makers of Britain’s finest shepherd huts. Each is a work of art made entirely from scratch under the guidance of master hut maker Richard Lee, who trained at John Makepeace’s college.
While Quercus evokes the charm of times gone by, it has been constructed using modern timber frame techniques. Designed for year-round comfort, it features sheep’s wool insulation – a natural, sustainable and renewable way to regulate the hut’s temperature.
